With over 800 construction contracts live at any one time in the UK, it’s key that you know where and how to look for the public sector contract opportunities that are right for you and your construction business.
There is a requirement within the UK that public sector contracts, including construction contracts, worth over a certain value are publicised to ensure transparency and fairness. There are two key websites for these. Find a Tender details all ‘high value’ contracts, those over £118,000, whilst Contracts Finder details contracts typically with a value of £10,000 or more.
Complete Tenders have combined the construction tenders from these two portals in to one simple and central search facility in our Open Tenders account.
Narrowing down the search to find your ideal Construction Contract
When searching for UK construction contracts, the sector covers a vast range of products and services including anything from supplying building equipment, architecture and design and build, to repairs and maintenance and demolition. As such, the most challenging task to start with will be to sort through the extensive listings and then the tender documents to identify which tender you want and which tender you’ve got a good chance of winning.
Here are just a few types of Construction Tenders regularly released:
- Construction – Building Maintenance Tenders
- Construction – Building Refurbishment
- Interior Works Contracts
- Exterior Works Contracts
- New Build Construction Contracts
- Civil Engineering Contracts
- Professional Services for Construction Opportunities
All of the usual tender portals offer the ability to use search functionality and filters, so it helps to do some research into the types of contracts you are looking for and then use these functions to narrow down your construction contract opportunities. Be mindful that public sector procurement teams may use a variety of terms when listing their tender notices, so make sure you include these in your searches. You can also look at contract location and contract value. Don’t necessarily be put off if a construction contract looks too big, as a £10 million construction contract could actually be made up of many smaller lots making it more accessible for SMEs. Similarly, tender notices may be listed as £0 value, which aren’t actually £0 value, it just means that the procurement team haven’t provided all of the key details.
Staying on top of the Construction Contracts released each day
Once you have narrowed down your search and understood what terms bring back the best construction contracts that you are interested in, you need to set-up a process within your business to see these when they are released. We often get calls from companies wanting to complete a tender that is due in a day or two and that is not enough time to do your bid response justice. Creating and implementing a process to continually monitor new construction contracts and construction tenders as they come to market means you will be ahead of many of your competitors (at least by a day or two) and won’t miss out on that ideal opportunity.
Signing up to our Open Tenders account will help you to work smarter, not harder, providing you with daily alerts into your inbox for your chosen sectors. If you are looking for something more tailored to your sector specialism, we also offer a Personal Tender Search service where our Personal Tender Search expert takes all of your key terms and selection criteria and does the searching for you.
